Hi Anny! It sure has been rainy here! But the British people are so warm and hospitable, we don't mind! And we love the pubs! Great food and a pint! Now, if only someone would export the pub to Boston! There are a couple in Harvard Square that come close but not quite the same as having one in every town! :-)

I always take my stuff with me, but the weather here - as you're finding - doesn't make working outdoors an easy option. Hope you still enjoy your visit - pubs have a way of making us feel better too!

Hi Dana! Thanks so much! Starting a drawing club is a great idea!! There's a lot of great energy working with others. we make a practice of looking for the strengths in each other's work so we can grow those strengths. This works far better, in my opinion, than looking for what is wrong. We also do our drawing to music and try not to talk when drawing. I think that's important as drawing requires a non-verbal presence.

Just invite some friends and plan a couple of activities for each week. We meet for 3 hours from 9 am until noon. In the first half hour we share what we've been up to with our art during the week. Then we get to work!

I usually have us to one skill-building exercise—contour and blind contour drawings of objects or people. We sometimes draw people from photographs. I also like to have people work large sometimes and just scribble and get the arm moving! The second exercise is usually an expressive experiment of some kind, the sort you see here. You can follow along here—I'm trying to post a little of what we do each week.

AND, if you're interested, I'm taking The Saturday Morning Drawing Club ONLINE in September!!! I'll be setting up the exercises, talking about the creative process and making a place for everyone to share their work and get feedback! Please send your email on the CONTACT page if you'd like advance notice!!

Let us know how your club goes! Thanks for writing, Dana!
