My new book, Making Art a Practice / How to Be the Artist You Are, will be officially released August 1rst in the US! I’m especially excited as it has art by 20 fantastic artists— Aparna Agrawal, Ky Anderson, Mo Cook, Katrien de Blauwer, Laura Douglass, Vivienne Flesher, Sarajo Frieden, Douglas Kornfeld, Margarita Mascaro, Christine Mauersberger, Paula Ogier, Stoney Parsons, Susy Pilgrim Waters, Heidi Pollard, Cinzia Ruggieri, Anthony Russo, Ward Schumaker, Maggie Stern, Gala Vanson, Kate Wilson and Sally Young. Findhorn Press based in Scotland is again my wonderful publisher and I got to see a sneak preview of the book when I was visiting England last month. It looks great, special thanks to the artists!
My first book, The Confident Creative /Drawing to Free the Hand and Mind, showed how drawing can be a way to connect with our true creative selves when practiced with awareness. Knowing how to connect allows us to open to the inspiration we need when making art. But once we begin to gather skills and make art, how do we sustain and nurture ourselves as artists? The new book explores art as a practice like yoga, one in which we commit to showing up on a regular basis, to exploring freely with awareness and to going to the edge of our abilities to find ourselves. The book offers 30 practices to invigorate our art making. Some are practical such as drawing, painting, trying new materials, and keeping an art journal. And some are more perceptive such as looking within, working with inspiration and using discernment. They are all designed to keep us moving forward as artists into our true purpose and creative vitality.
I’ll be posting more about the book and the artists. Thanks for visiting. I welcome your comments!
The book will soon be in bookstores but you can buy it now on Amazon.
