Sometimes when I do upside-down or blind contour drawing with people, they have trouble seeing how great their drawings are. We’re taught in school to get things “right” and these just aren’t, which is why I love them so much. So much personality! And energy and tenderness, with such interesting mistakes. And so easy to see each person’s unique and fantastic hand. Thanks to the wonderful students at Bay Path College who did these great drawings with me. And knew how to laugh too!

I picked up a copy of The Confident Creative just this week. I LOVE it! I draw cartoons as a hobby and blog about that. In fact, I’ve given a mention of your book because I so enjoy the affirming and fun approach you take. I find myself wishing there were a Saturday morning drawing club near where I live.
Glad to have discovered this blog too! All the best from somewhere near Winnipeg.
Hi there! Glad you like the book! And thanks so much for mentioning the book on your blog! Feel free to share your blog link here; other readers might enjoy! I have another book in the works—Making Art a Practice / How to Be the Artist You Are. Due out August 2013! Quite a long way off but time flies! And the next thing I want to write is how to start your own Saturday Morning Drawing Club! Stay tuned! Meanwhile, happy drawing and thanks so much for checking in! All the best from a fellow Canadian…now living in the US!
Just checked back in. Thanks for the updates about the next book coming. The “Making Art a Practice” sounds like it would be right up my alley! Can’t wait!
A couple of people in our locale would like to try a Saturday morning drawing club after reading about the one you have in the Boston area. Your writing would give us lots of guidance.
Thanks for asking about my blog “Making Faces: A doodle a day. The address: cr2nst.blogspot.ca.
All the best to you….as it happens, we’re US-ians living near Winnipeg—so perhaps we’re akin to ‘exchange students’? cheers!
Hey, Bartster! Tried to connect to your blog but got error message. Americans in Winnipeg! Sounds like a great subject for a book!
Happy drawing! And, yes, it’s a great thing to draw with other folks! We get lots of ideas and have some good laughs. Thanks for checking back in! Cat
