Bell Tower Artist Talks

The art show at Bell Tower Place in Watertown was great fun.  Wonderful new connections were made between artists and art patrons and we got to show our work in the beautiful condo spaces created by Karnig Ostayan and his team in the old church at the corner of Mt Auburn Street and School Street.  I think art is a great way to experience spirit so it all seemed very fitting.  We had a good crowd and it looks like we’ll do it again mid-October.  This time the artists will each speak about their work for a few minutes.  It’ll be great to hear what they have to say and also to see everyone again.  John Petrowsky, of Hammond Real Estate, had the idea of putting on an art show in these beautiful spaces.  It’s another way for artists to show their work and a way to bring attention to these new living spaces.  I’ll keep you posted.

On another front, I sent the final version of the book on a disk to the publisher in France last week.  Even as I went through it one last time I found small errors—a person’s name spelled incorrectly, a page number in the wrong point size.  I really hope I haven’t missed anything else!  Working with a small publisher means that I’m responsible for almost everything, though mercifully, Nicky Leach, a very fine editor was brought in to smooth a few things out. The great benefit though, and I often thought of this, was that the book could evolve totally organically.  I had the freedom to change things up at will, and I did!

It felt rather good to walk down the street to the old post office and give it over.  I was a bit flabbergasted that it only cost $3.19 to mail it all the way to France.  All that work fit onto one DVD which doesn’t weigh a thing really.  It will be great to see it when it comes out in book form.  It looks absolutely beautiful, thanks to all of the wondrous artists who contributed their work.  You can see two of them in the photos here—Aparna Agrawal on top, and Yuko Adachi below.  Visist their beautiful sites to see more.  They are both in the Bell Tower show as well.  So, if you’re in Boston mid-October, come and see their work alongside that of ten other artists.  Will post date and time as soon as its confirmed.

Now, it’s time to chill a little.  When a huge project ends, I need to catch my breath.  It’s part of the creative process, I think—the yin and yang of it.  I started making some little sculptures in the studio last week—just for fun.  They’re way too labor-intensive for me to go much further with but will post when done.

Meanwhile, cheers to anyone stopping here to read.  Please say hi and I’d love to know what you’re doing too.  A blog can seem awfully self-centered!

It looks like it was a wonderful show with great spirit. Making connections with other artists is so affirming. I am looking forward to reading your book.

I haven’t been in the studio for the past month. My limited energy has been going in family directions.

Nice to hear from you, Debra. Really hope all is well with the family. Please, take good care of yourself. Sometimes we have to slow the pace down a bit. Anyway, hope you can schedule in a bit of fun—I always find it gives me an energy boost. xoxo
