Almost Done!

Posted on | August 6, 2009 |

flowers2The publisher of my book, now called The Confident Creative, left last night.  He was visiting from France and we all had a great time together.  I’d hoped to give him the book to take back but there are still a few odds and ends to do so I’ll have to send it over the cyber waves. It’s been weeks and weeks of work but great fun—have loved every minute of it. There are some absolutely fantastic contributing artists so the book looks great and is full of visual inspiration. I truly look forward to bringing it into the world.

This is the summer that almost didn’t arrive so, now, in this first week of August, we can hardly believe that September is just around the corner. Maybe the fall will be hot and sunny! The rainy weather made it easy though to stay inside and work, work, work. Now we’re ready to play, play, play and our holiday is coming!

This little painting is one I did last week to illustrate the different ways we draw. Maybe it was influenced by all the cloudy days we’ve had but I think it has a fine, peaceful energy. I have a couple more pieces to do for the book then it really will be done.

When a a big project ends I always feel a little discombobulated and like I must reinvent my life.  What will come next? I have ideas, of course—I’m never short of those.  But, right now, I want to think of nothing—just go away and forget everything for a little while.  Look around and see what excites me.  Allow space for new ideas to take form.

I have an idea though of what comes next. It’s the great fun of being an artist. Can’t wait to get going, actually.

Meanwhile, I hope you too are having a fine summer despite whatever weather is coming your way. That’s the art of life—we don’t need good weather to make it good!
