The Answer

answerEvery once in a while I read a motivational book to give me a boost in energy.  The Answer, Your Guide to Financial Freedom and Living an Extraordinary Life, gave me so much that I actually rethought my whole approach to being an artist in the world.  It’s written by John Assarof and Murray Smith, neither of whom has any post-secondary education but both of whom went on to create incredible success.  It’s really a business book but I think a lot of what it says applies to artists too—the creating of art as well as the business of it.

There were several things the book made especially clear to me.  The first is that for any success, there has to be a crystal clear vision to start and not any old ordinary vision but something unique that you feel passionate about.  It also points out that our vision needs to coincide with what the world needs.  I think another way of saying this is how might our work serve our planet.  There can be a time in art making for just mucking around and exploring but real art comes from clear vision and conviction. There are many tips also for bringing our work into the world, indeed, a radically different way of thinking about it.

But best of all, the book also shows us how to retrain the brain so that we aren’t living our limited thoughts but our highest ones.  By using meditation and mantras and a number of other techniques, we can train our non-conscious brain, the one that runs most of our lives, to support us in manifesting on the highest level whatever our vision for our lives and work is.  This is truly worth the cost of the book and I highly recommend it, especially in these troubled economic times.  It will give you a boost and lots of inspiration.
